GET UNDERSTANDING ABOUT FLYERS

Everyone knows the flyer, but not necessarily got it right and understand it enough. Because we often define flyers as simple flyers that ‘tutors’ or pubs receive when they stop at a red light, but is the definition of a flyer limited? To distinguish the characteristics of a flyer, remember that the flyer:

  1. There is NO ‘good’ print quality and color like Leaflet. This is another concept that is easy to confuse with a Flyer. It can be said that leaflet is a better version of the print flyer.
  2. DO NOT fold as Brochure. As a more informative form of advertising, Brochure therefore also has more sides and published in folded form.
  3. TIMELY. Individuals and businesses often hand out leaflets to transmit seasonal information such as: Discounts; opening; fair …

WHAT IS FLYER DIFFERENT FROM LEAFLET? It is also a very popular publication in advertising, so what exactly is a leaflet? What is it like? Leaflet is an advertising publication with better print quality than flyers but still at a universal level, easy for mass printing for advertising campaigns. In addition, flyers usually print in A6 paper size, leaflet can usually print both in A4 or A5 size.

WHAT IS FLYER DIFFERENT FROM BROCHURE? Compared to leaflet or flyer, brochure is the most expensive publication.
What is a brochure? It is also an advertising design but is printed on standard paper, folded in half (called bi-fold), tripled (called tri-fold, or z-fold) to create informational items or brochures. called leaflets.

The difference between flyers, leaflets and brochures is evident in print quality and printing paper, as well as the purpose of use. Brochures are usually not distributed as widely as leaflets or flyers, but only by people who really care about the information of the brochure. For example: real estate project information; Brochure design course ….

Designing a flyer, brochure or leaflet is quite simple if you master basic Photoshop skills and know the factors that make it more appealing such as color, font, layout. To assist in the design of these publications, explore the following three points immediately:

1. CREATE HIGHLIGHTS

Just like a movie can’t be without the ‘knot’ of climax, a professional flyer needs to have a highlight. You can use one or a combination of these elements to create a highlight for the flyer:

a. Font

Designed to convey information in words, choosing a typeface is important for a flyer. For each font style, there is an emotion and corresponding context, different meanings. We have 03 basic typefaces:

  1. Serif
  2. Sans-serif
  3. Script
  4. Decorative

For example, when walking into a luxurious restaurant like JW Marriot and getting a flyer with a hiphop font, that sounds a little ‘wrong’, right ?! Try to refer to some of these examples:

The above flyer is a publication designed for a local food fair. It uses sans-serif font for the fair’s basic information, and features a highlight with the ‘festival’ information – presented with a creative font script.

Most people don’t have time for the entire flyer. So choose the most outstanding information you want to attract, and create accents with a creative and relevant typeface. Note again that do not abuse the typeface too much, it creates confusion and from one-point-emphasis, the viewer will not know where to focus.

b.Colors

Flyer is a popular form of advertising because of its relatively cheap cost and average print quality. We often get black and white flyers, but there are many brands that choose to design color with flyers to increase attractiveness.

First, choose the right color for the flyer. If red is able to increase the appetite of the looker, is heavily applied to the dining brand; The green color feels peaceful, reliable and is used a lot with the brand of social networking or banking. In general, each color has its own voice, you can refer to the meaning of other colors.

So how to make the colors more attractive ?! Imagine, you have in your hand a flyer of KFC Fried Chicken with all kinds of red: plum red, magenta, love red, dew red. A little boring, right ?! So, let’s refer to the 06 color schemes in the design to use more diverse colors.

Let’s take a look at some examples:

The above flyers use a monochromatic color scheme with yellow, besides, they also create visual harmony with some details such as suitcase turquoise, green plants. This helps the flyer not boring and more harmonious.

Another tip for color applications with flyers is the use of color printing paper. This will also help highlight the content of your flyer!

c.Illustration

An image is worth thousands of words. As noted, the viewer only has 5 seconds to decide to continue reading a flyer, so using direct illustrations makes it easier for them to capture information quickly and will continue to take action if appropriate.

Example

Flyer on promotion for a ‘Summer Camp’. And they used the image of a tent in the middle of the pine trees and behind it was the sun. Do you feel like ‘summer’ and ‘camping’ ?! Most of the answer is yes. Every flyer has some key keywords that you want to convey like the example above. And if your illustration describes those keywords, then you succeed!

You can design your own illustrations through Adobe Illustrator according to your own creativity; or download illustration designs, stock images available on Canva or Pexels, icons on flat design.

C. PRINTING CAREFULLY

Flyer is an offline publication so printing is for sure. In this section, I will give a few notes for you to have a flyer printing process that is effective and accurate:

1. Color

In designing an Offline publication, you need to set the color system in Photoshop in the CMYK system – the color system for printing. On the contrary, installing CMYK with Online design, your colors may be displayed wrong if you do not switch to RGB color system.

2. Saved File

There are two main types of files: JPG and PNG. JPG files are the preferred file types for designs that use capture images or have lots of detail. If the PNG file is preferred for designs that use multiple color bands, text and lines, blocks. Each format will have a separate usage and note.
